So a contract is required to involve tax dollars?

"recieve"?

Anyway, I'm in doubt about this. I'm obviously against corporate welfare and subsidies, but contracting out often seems an efficient and successful way to get things done in some instances, even though this shouldn't become an ideology in its own right (as seems to be the case in some places, which entirely defeats the purpose), and this definitely involves tax money.

I'll just say that this question is sh**tty and I'll vote "strongly agree", I suppose, because they're probably aiming at subsidies rather than public-private contracts.

Medical research, alternative energy, infrastructure banks... there's plenty of worthy causes.

Disagree, the government should be able to subsidize corporations with positive externalities (such as green energy companies) whose price is too high to reflect the true cost of the goods of the corporation. Furthermore, some goods such as healthcare, food, and other basic necessities should be subsidized, but not price-controlled.

This is a terrible question for a political test! Questions ideally should unambiguously sort the questionee in a left or right direction. This question, however, could just as easily be answered with a "yes" from people who consider themselves far-left or socialist, as it could an ultra-economic liberal right-winger, so cannot be useful at all.

Also, it would be very hard to, say, stop contracting from the private sector without in the process transforming modern capitalism into something vastly different. But perhaps this question isn't talking about that, but talking about, say, wholesale subsidies. A view I'm more partial tokards - subsidies in the agriculture market in particular are highly distorting; but I don't think I'm left-wing enough to say all the private sector's responsiblities should be taken up by the government, which is the implication of the question, ultimately.
