Before Clyde starts, I'd actually up the charge to $0.10. They already do it in some states IRL, so I'm sure Atlasia could take it.

there's already a 20¢ charge on a federal level but i'm actually fine with layering a regional charge on top of it

Federal law is a bit strict. One amendment that I'm going to make - I though I'd included it originally - is that any profits from this should be donated to charities, rather than it being a tax.

I absolutely support this and would be willing to go further. Too many damn plastic bags, and too many people don't recycle them. Before I started using the self-checkouts in Giant Eagle, Wal-Mart, et. al., I would actually ask my cashier not to use one plastic bag per 1-2 items - like, put as much in one as you possibly can. So then they would double bag them, which defeated the purpose. I started using self checkout. Tongue

Aldi does this the right way - it's like .25 for a paper bag, and I don't think they have plastic bags. I always take a box or a shopping bag in with me.

Instead of fines, how about tax incentives?

I wouldn't describe the charge as a fine - as it requires companies to give the profits from their carrier bag sales to charities.
