If a candidate pays the filing fees and successfully files before a deadline takes place, but they announce they're dropping out of the race before the actual primary/caucus, will they still be on that ballot? I feel stupid for not knowing, but its something I thought about yesterday. They would essentially have wasted their money on the process if its not the case.

I thought I would put this here as the South Carolina fee is 4 days away, but if Presidential Election Process is a better board a moderator can move it there as well.

I almost voted for Herman Cain in 2012 lol before I awakened as a libertarian and voted Ron Paul, Cain as LONG gone by that time.

If the withdrawal is an actual end, then they might be taken off if there's enough time to reprint ballots. But since candidates tend to "suspend" campaigns rather than actually ending them (this allows them to keep raising money and keep their delegates if desired in case the other candidates die or something), they stay on the ballot.
