Jerry Brown

He's had plenty of runs and opportunities since 1983, and with exception of '92, he's passed 'em up. He even stayed out state politics until 2006.

This tells me, along with his ruling out early on that such ambitions no longer exist.

Definitely disagree on Susana Martinez

Here would be my list:

Mary Fallin
David Ige
Earl Ray Tomblin
Pete Ricketts

Most people who get into politics, though, have- at least- some sort of latent desire to be President.

She said "no" about whether she'd run in 2016 in 2013. Yep, lots of interest here.....

I think she could be convinced to be the VP Nominee, but actually running for president? Er, no.

Most of them.

I'd say Bob Bentley, Bill Walker, Asa Hutchison, Jerry Brown, Dan Malloy, Nathan Deal, David Ige, Butch Otter, Terry Branstad, Steve Beshear, Paul LePage, Larry Hogan, Mark Dayton, Phil Bryant, Jay Nixon, Pete Ricketts, Maggie Hassan, Pat McCrory, Jack Dalrymple, Kate Brown, Tom Wolf, Dennis Daugaard, Greg Abbot, Gary Herbert, Peter Shumlin, Jay Inslee and Early Ray Tomblin.

Really? I think he was strategic (and smart) to sit out this time, but I don't see why he wouldn't take the plunge in 2020 if Hillary wins. Why not? He'd only be 61, that's not that old in political terms.

I'm sure Jerry Brown wants to be President, he just thinks he can't win.

If he wanted to be President, he wouldn't have signed RFRA, especially in a cultural climate where Christianity is declining.

It's not about Christianity; it's about extreme interpretations of Christianity.

This assumes that Pence knew how poorly RFRA would be received, both nationally and within Indiana, which does not appear to be the case - he went out of his way to say how shocked he was that people didn't like that bill. If anything, I think he was hoping signing RFRA would make him even more of a hero with the religious right (and thereby boost his presidential prospects).

Based on Pope Francis's popularity, I wouldn't say that Christianity is declining, but fundamentalist Christianity certainly is.

Right wing opposition to gays is certainly declining.  It doesn't follow that Evangelical Christianity is declining, though.  It is merely ceding that issue outside of the most extreme circles.  Evangelical Christians have actually grown as a voting block and become more monolithically R from 2004 to present.  A serious religious left developing does seem a lot more plausible than it did 10 years ago.  So I could believe younger Evangelicals eventually split the movement between the parties or more likely pull the Republicans left on economic security issues.  And note the difference between Trump's base and Carson's base.  It's not the Evangelicals who are channeling cryptic racism (although they are generally quite sexist relative to the American average).  It's the "conservative independent" libertarian types giving the racists cover.
