Somewhat lousy and authoritarian, yet one of Venezuela's better leaders (and let's face it, his opposition is probably worse; like in much of Latin America, the choice is "corrupt populist" vs "horrendous CIA-backed quasi-dictator"). Of course, the country's economy is ludicrously unsustainable, and he didn't particularly help in that - great example of the Dutch disease really.

(Oh yeah the weird fetishisation of Bolivar was pretty gross)

Tbf, I'm pretty sure "superman" is twelve or something.

I feel like it's Chavez's policies that put into place the events that led to the economic disaster that Venezula is currently in, though Maduro obviously is hapless at the job.

Oh, sure. Chavez's decrees made it all happen, but I do give credit to Chavez in that regardless of his policies, he did manage to keep things relatively stable. Maduro is a mere thug.
