This does not surprise me. Trump knows he can't win going the third party route and that it will ensure a Democratic victory. Using the threat of going third party to secure the nomination as a blackmail tactic, is not a good strategy. End of story.

Oh, and of course, if something weird happens, Trump will have no problem ignoring the pledge anyway, claiming that there was a breach of trust or something in the way he was denied the nomination. So in that sense, it's not really all that meaningful in my view.

He wasn't going to do the legwork to get ballot access.  He would have had to start before the primaries even started, so it would be sabotage his campaign for the GOP nomination.

This way he gets to pretend it's a concession and act like he's being magnanimous.  Smart move.

The bump from this declaration should bump him over 40%.

Well, this secures anyone at the Republican base who doesn't trust him because of the third party thing.

The loyalty oath is to support the GOP nominee. All the GOPers will sign.

Half a year from now Lindsey Graham and Jeb Bush will realize in horror that they signed a vow to support Donald Trump.

This is assuming that Trump will be the nominee, which is a HUGE assumption to make.

In all seriousness, this is an example of Trump's negotiating skills. Trump gave up nothing (a third party bid would be an impossibility given that most filing deadlines are the same dates as the primaries so he couldn't run without dropping out now) and what does he get in return for dropping the empty threat of an impossible third party run? A vow that if he wins the nomination the 16 other candidates will pledge support, something that is both useful and gratifying to Trump (Lindsey Graham's endorsement will be wonderful). A good deal.

But endorsement/support actually means nothing. The RNC isn't forcing candidates to actively campaign for the winner. For all we know, if Trump gets the nomination, Bush or Graham can appear on TV and say "yes, I support Trump, he has my endorsement" and then disappear for the rest of the campaign. As long as they don't actively campaign against him of course.

This is absolutely huge news, and I don't think people get that.

Donald Trump may VERY likely be the Grand Old Party's nominee in 2016.

John E. Sununu is supporting Kasich, not Jeb.

Yeah, no
I'm anti-trump and at least I'm not blind to the fact that he has nearly a third of the entire GOP primary electorate absolutely riled up at his "strength", in comparison to the "for sure" Bush & Rubio .etc (5-8%?).

We've got to be real at some point. Donald is building a base and it's snowballing bigger each day, the other candidates aren't. I'm not a supporter of his but I can only lie to myself for so long.

If you have payed attention it seems trump has peaked and he hasn't seen a flood of attack ads yet

Trump has a ceiling, I doubt once the race begins to winnow down, Trump will have an as easy time in the later primaries as the field gets to maybe 2-3 other candidates like Jeb, Cruz and Rubio etc.
