The Assembly's vote on the Save the Animals Act ended in a 1-1 tie with two abstentions.  Per Article V, Section 3 of the Northeast Constitution, Acting Governor Pikachu has decided to forward the bill to the voters to decide whether to enact it into law.  The vote will take place this weekend, along with the Gubernatorial special election and vote on the Assembly Inactivity Amendment.

The text of the bill follows:

Like with proposed constitutional amendments, I am opening this thread to inform Northeast voters of the vote and to allow for debate.  Unlike for constitutional amendments, there is no mechanism in the SOAP for formal statements of support or opposition, so I cannot restate them here.  But there was some debate in the Assembly.  The Assembly's thread is here.

I'm not sure what animals are covered with this Act. Will common meat like beef, pork, chicken still be available and legal for consumption?

That's what part of the debate was about in the Assembly.  It's not clear.  And because of that, I'd urge a no vote.

This bill would cut off so many food products that use pork extract or other things similar to it. I'll be voting against this bill

No animal should ever be treated in a cruel of inhumane manner.

This bill protects some but not all animals.

Therefore, I will vote no on this bill.
