I don't see why more Republicans don't support Kasich. I think he'd have the best chance of beating Clinton.

Because he is not mean spirited, anti science and doesn't hate brown people. This is toxic in a Republican primary, look at Huntsman in 2012.

Never gets old padding your superiority complex, does it?  No one on this site could ever say a Democrat isn't doing better in the polls because they aren't embittering enough jaded poor people or convincing enough minorities or women that the Republican boogeyman is out to steal all of their rights.  Now do I believe that last sentence?  Of course not.  But yours was pretty stupid, too, and I give you the benefit of the doubt that you didn't literally mean it, either.

Kasich will rise in the polls, I'm fairly certain of that.

John Kasich just needs enough of a post announcement bump to get into the debates. From there on, I really think he could go far in this campaign. At the very least he could be the VP on the Republican ticket.

For awhile I questioned his occasional grumpy demeanor in interviews. After seeing Trump's popularity soaring, I don't think Kasich's personality will be a hindrance to him.

I'm now a bit less clear on what time this announcement is going to take place.  I guess they're actually saying that "doors open" at 9:30, but the announcement might not be for another hour or so after doors open.

My biggest question about him: is he a poor man's Jeb Bush or a rich man's George Pataki? While they were both governors on the moderate side of the Republican spectrum, they seem to bookend these 17 candidates in likelihood of winning the nomination. If he's a rich man's Pataki, things won't end well for his campaign. Just being a competent, moderate governor of a large state, if slightly more viable nationally, is all well and good, but without a more colorful personality, it won't translate to the rest of the country. If Kasich patakis his way through an uninteresting campaign, he'll endure the same fate as the former New York Governor.

But if he's a poor man's Jeb Bush, things will get interesting. Anti-Jeb sentiments in the Republican Party mirror and might prove to be stronger than the anti-Romney movement of 2012. If the third Bush coronation is indeed cancelled, to where does the king's court turn? Kasich is a realistic option.

I guess the announcement might not actually happen until 11am:

Also, taken from Twitter, were these guys separated at birth?

EDIT - the girl on the right side of the screen right behind the podium with the hipster glasses and brown-blonde hair is kinda cute too

Yep. He's reaching out to everyone. He's putting all or nothing into New Hampshire. Is he trying to replicate the Comeback Kid strategy?

He apparently is speaking without a teleprompter and a written speech.

Loving how it can help solidify a "grumpy old guy" demeanor to reach out to disaffected voters across the spectrum.

If he doesn't have a written speech, why does he keep looking down at his podium?

He had notes, but not a full written out thing I think.

Makes sense. That's what I heard after his speech finished as well.

I watched the start of his campaign speech and it was really good.

I'd probably vote for Kasich over Hillary in a general election.

I agree partially, both sides try to extremize (new word, you like it?) the other, but Zyzz's statement is kind of true, that it is your party's front-runner that said that all Mexicans were racist and now he is at the top of the GOP, vs. Kasich who actually is credible and is not doing ultimately well in the polls (who knows what he will be after the announcement though).

The news is only talking about Donald Trump, most folks won't even know he announced.

Wow, this piece is some garbage:

...

Huh

You finally have a candidate that talks about actual people and what they have done and speaks freely for 45 minutes, instead of using this sh*tty teleprompter thing and then gets called out for it ?

It would be better if more politicians in the US would switch back to giving real speeches and not read it down somewhere ...

This author is trash, and I thought Kasich was one of the few candidates that actually sounded genuine during his announcement. If this writer can't tell the difference between unscripted and rambling, he needs to find another job.

Sanders doesn't use teleprompters.
