http://www.dailysabah.com/asia/2015/11/11/myanmar-opposition-government-delaying-results-deliberately
"Nearly two full days after voting ended, the election commission, which did not immediately respond to the accusation, has released results for only 83 seats in the 664-member Parliament, giving 74 to the NLD and four to the ruling party. Based on its own counting, the NLD has claimed victory in 154 of the 164 seats in four of the country's 14 states. In addition, the commission announced that the NLD had won 11 of 15 seats in four regional parliaments."

So the House of Reps has 440 seats. NLD needs 221 for a majority. 110 seats are appointed by the military though. That leaves 330 seats up for grabs. Math is hard but I think that means in order to win a simple majority, NLD has to win a 2/3rds majority of available seats.

With about 47% of seats declared, the National League for Democracy (NLD) has taken over 90% of the vote. It's a landslide! Let's hope the will of the people is truly honored this time.

Myanmar President Thein Sein and the powerful army congratulated democratic champion Aung San Suu Kyi on Wednesday, after her party trounced the ruling camp in the first free election in 25 years and was closing in on an absolute majority in parliament.

Thein Sein reiterated that the government would accept the results of the election and agreed to Suu Kyi's request to hold reconciliation talks soon, although the two are still to agree on the time and location of the negotiations.

Suu Kyi's opposition National League for Democracy (NLD) has won over 80 percent of the seats declared so far in the lower house and is well ahead in the upper house and regional assemblies.

Results so far gave Suu Kyi's party 179 of 216 seats declared out of the 330 seats not allocated to the military in the lower house. Under the junta-crafted constitution, a quarter of the seats in both chambers are unelected and reserved for the armed forces.

To form Myanmar's first democratically elected government since the early 1960s, the NLD needs to win more than two-thirds of seats that were contested in parliament.

The NLD has said it is on course for over 250 seats in the lower house, well above the 221 needed to control the chamber. Reuters was not able to independently verify the party's estimates of its own performance.

With any luck, this will set the stage for Burma's resurgence as an economic power in its own right, especially in agriculture.

Right now, NLD has 217 seats out of 440 in the House of Reps, with 49 still to be called.

NLD has 110 out of 224 in the upper house, with 35 still to be called.

So a majority in both houses looking almost certain. Not enough to amend the constitution but certainly because to form a government with Aung Sang Suu Kyi as the unofficial power behind the throne.

Just as in 1990, the Shan Nationalities League for Democracy has come in third. The pro-military Shan party, the Shan Nationalities Democratic Party, which came in second in the 2010 election, appears not to have won any seats at all.

The far-right Buddhist nationalists have done terribly so far. Maybe it is a sign that Ashin Wirathu and his followers (who should be droned fwiw) are little more than an angry and loathesome minority?

Wirathu openly endorsed the USDP, but Aung San Suu Kyi was too cowardly to openly confront his hatemongering. So it's impossible to say.

Well he did call her useless, so perhaps his influence isn't that large. Beyond a small and possibly violent group, of course. It's worth noting that various other far-right outfits failed to make any impact at all, which is always a good thing.

Also a bit of classic politicalspeak from ASSK here:

Aung San Suu Kyi: Now, it's interesting because the outside world criticizes me because I have not condemned the Buddhists. And inside the country, I have been condemned because I won't condemn the Muslims. Because I base this on the simple fact that what we're trying to build up is harmony and national reconciliation.

Bill Whitaker: Hearing you talk right now, I hear the politician.

Aung San Suu Kyi: I've always been a politician.

Bill Whitaker: How does any politician pull this country together?

Aung San Suu Kyi: The answer is very simple and very difficult. Trust. We have to build up trust between all our different ethnic nationalities.

(Seriously though Burnese nationalism is terrifying and makes the BJP look like kittens in comparison)

How do we know? There are no seat by seat results. And maybe the sheer euphoria over the peaceful end of a dictatorship simply overpowered latent Islamophobia.

I can give her the benefit of the doubt because of the election, but now that she's in de facto power, if she is truly courageous she would be like Nelson Mandela and use her moral authority to confront Wirathu.

CNN BREAKING NEWS ALERT - Nobel laureate Aung San Suu Kyi's National League for Democracy (NLD) wins a historic majority in Myanmar's parliament.

I hope the NLD is able to stay dominate for the foreseeable future.

Can anyone confirm which constituencies didn't hold elections? Was it just the Rohingya regions? The main Rohingya party, the National Democratic Party for Human Rights, which won 4 seats in 1990, didn't win any seats at all.

1/4 of the seats are military appointees, if that's what you're talking about.

No. I'm talking about the 7 seats that were supposed to elected but the elections were cancelled due to insurgency.

Shan state all of them. Rohingya are largely disenfrachised. Also, Rakhine state has reported very little till now.

Update, with all but 61 seats (on all levels) decided. Also including the "ethnic affairs ministers" (basically, additional state/regional legislators elected to represent minority populations), but excluding the military (a quarter of the total number of seats in each legislature - USDP will block with them , of course). It seems the military/USDP block will control the Shan legislature, but possibly nothing else.
