Unlike his RL views , Thomas Jefferson seeks a 3rd Term as President. While it is hard to see him losing would it be more competitive than the RL elcection with James Madison as the Democratic-Republican Candidate?

The Federalists' lack of competitiveness in the growing number of Western states is what did them in IMO, but cries of an American Napoleon would make it closer than 1804.

He easily wins. The Embargo Act is the primary reason it’s likely closer than 1804, not fears Jefferson would be an American Napoleon. Even still, Jefferson was very popular and might do better than Madison did in the actual 1808.

I wish he had done it, would have normalized third terms earlier on so the “Washington tradition” wouldn’t have become such a big deal and the nonsensical 22nd amendment probably wouldn’t have been passed. I’ve always said that if you like your president, you should be able to keep him. Term limits are a solution to a problem that doesn’t exist: If the president is bad, vote him out. It’s worked pretty well for the most part.
