Every region considered a constituency with its real no. of seats. D'hondt used.

I.e. the method that is used to elect members of the European Parliament.

Every region considered a constituency with its real no. of seats. D'hondt used.
I'd like to do this again with much smaller constituencies. I would envisage 5-15 seats per constituency.

Like this (this is sort of based on Al's categories in the predictions thread):

Scotland
Highlands & Islands - 6 seats (incl. Argyll)
Grampian - 6 seats (he called it NE)
Tayside & Fife - 10 seats (Al had two here, NC and Fife. Fife is too small.)
Lothian - 10 seats (incl. Falkirk)
Strathclyde, aka Central Belt - 13 seats (what Al calls the Central Belt, minus Glasgow)
Glasgow - 7 seats
South Scotland - 7 seats (incl. Ayrshire)

Wales
North - 10 seats (Clwyd & Gwynnedd)
Mid & West - 6 seats (Powys & Dyfed)
Cardiff Metro - 5 seats (incl. Vale of Glamorgan)
Monmouthshire (6) and Mid & West Glamorgan (13) (instead of Al's Industrial South Wales (18) and Doesn't Belong Anywhere (1) divisions)

North East
Tyneside & Northumberland - 14 seats (I think this is the pre-74 Northumberland really)
County Durham - 11 seats (that includes Sunderland...normally under Tyne & Wear...which fits my 5-15 requirement to a T)
Teesside - 5 seats

North West
Cumbria - 6 seats
Lancashire - 15 seats (Al split this up into N (6), E (5), WC (5)...and included Southport, which I think used to belong to Merseyside, in WC. Southport not included here)
Liverpool Metro - 10 seats (incl. Southport)
Lancashire Coalfield - 5 seats (any real government body would name this Wigan, or Wigan & St Helens, but let's not debate semantics here as that's really irrelevant to the exercise...the boundary is fine)
South Lancashire - 10 seats (Al's SC and SE Lancs)
Manchester Metro - 15 seats
Cheshire - 10 seats (incl. Al's "South Lancs/North Cheshire", ie all of post 74 Cheshire)
Wirral - 5 seats

Yorkshire & Humberside
North Yorkshire - 8 seats
Humberside - 10 seats (incl. East Riding. Al's Humberside (ie the part from Lincolnshire, or South Humberside or what-have-you) is too small)
Yorkshire Coalfields - 12 seats
Sheffield - 6 seats
Leeds/Bradford - 12 seats
Pennine Belt - 8 seats

East Midlands
Counties. This is really easy

West Midlands
As Al has them, ie Hereford with Shropshire, Solihull and Meriden with Brum, Coventry with Warwickshire, rem. of West Midlands Metropolitan as Black Country

SW
As Al has them (Al calls "Avon" Bristol Metro...I'm not sure if he keeps to the county boundaries...but at least his Somerset is large enough)
but w/ Bournemouth Metro back in Dorset (10 seats)

Eastern
Counties. I'll have to split Essex somehow, though:
Essex SE: Basildon, Billericay, Castle Point, Rayleigh, Rochford & SOuthend E, Southend W, Thurrock - 7
Essex N: remainder - 10

SE
Counties. Wight with Hampshire. I'll have to split Kent, Sussex (E & W...this is easy...I think), Hampshire though.
Kent NW: Dartford, Gravesham, Medway, Chatham & whatever, Gillingham Sittingbourne & Sheppey, Sevenoaks, Tonbridge & Malling. 8
Kent SE: remainder. 9
Whichever old County is Sussex Mid in, though?
Hampshire: Wight, Portsmouth & suburbs, New Forest for the one (8); Southampton and rural parts for the other (10).

London
Central: Westminster, Ken & Chelsea, Camden, Islington, City. 7
East: Barking & Dag, Redbridge, Havering. 7
East Central: Hackney, Tower Hamlets, Newham, Waltham Forest. 9
North: Enfield, Barnet, Haringey. 8
North West: Brent, Harrow, Hillingdon. 8
West: Ealing, Ham & Ful, Hounslow. 6
South Central: Lambeth, Southwark, Lewisham. 8
South West: Wandsworth, Merton, Richmond, Kingston, Sutton. 10
South East: Greenwich, Bexley, Bromley, Croydon. 11

Northern Ireland
I think I'll do Foyle, Derry E, Tyrone W, Mid Ulster, Fermanagh & Tyrone S, Newry & Armagh and Upper Bann as Northern Ireland W (7), remainder as Northern Ireland E aka Antrim & Down (11).

London
Al's inner/outer isn't helpful at all. (Tottenham is outer London? Wtf?) I'll find something.

You might want to chop and change around the old Euro constituencies for this one (this is what I use to categorise London in the results on my laptop, though I've reduced the total number of Divisions in London to 8 ). Link

You do end up with some pretty crappy combinations though, e.g. I ended up with Romford and Bethnal Green in the East division on my map.

Hmm. Yeah, okay. I'd not want to split any boroughs, which will require some changes to this.

Al's inner/outer isn't helpful at all. (Tottenham is outer London? Wtf?) I'll find something.

It's the old LCC area. Generally a decent dividing line between the city and the suburbs with the exceptions of Putney (which is suburban) and Tottenham (which is inner city. It's hard to tell the difference between Stamford Hill and South Tottenham on the ground).
But West Ham/East Ham are not inner city; they're seperate industrial towns that got swallowed up by London.

Clydeside would be a better name than Strathclyde

I know. The most quintessentially Strathclyde area would likely be Ayrshire...it doesn't matter what it's named though.

Swing 200 votes from Tories to Labour and it's 5-2...the bitterness of narrow defeat is not unique to fptp (also see Grampian on that note)

Using Hare-Niemeyer instead of D'Hondt gives Law a seat.

*Problem with current boundaries is that they split Washington. Only way around (this will make Al unhappy) is a County Durham seat along current official boundaries, a Newkie & Sunderland seat, and a Northumberland / North Tyneside seat. I'll do a restatement for those boundaries next.

Edit: done.

The two Non-Labour held constituencies are way oversized, plus they are both Lab thirdplace seats where the Lab vote is tactically squeezed...
