While they are rare in occurrence, it seems like most international countries allow for some type of national initiative/referendum.

Would you support such a concept (would require a constitutional amendment) and do you think this will ever happen in the United States?

The only appropriate national referendum the US should have would be for amendments to the constitution proposed by Congress or the States

Most countries don't practice direct democracy as a matter of course - mostly they are abhorrations, aside from nations which require referenda to amend their constitutions.

I would support a limited national initiative proces, if only to make politics more interesting and end the sluglike process of lawmaking.

No, although I like the idea for constitutional amendments that they should have to pass state referendums rather than state legislative votes after getting the 2/3rd requirement in the House and Senate.

I would absolutely support a referendum amendment becuase it would be a stepping stone for much needed government reforms and asking important questions that should not be left purely to politicians. Imagine if the EU treaties were not subject to a referendum.
