Sean Trende reminds us that swing voters who hold the balance of power, have disproportionate influence. As an aside, that is my opinion as to why we have lax gun laws, that are laxer than a majority of the voters would prefer (NRA single issue voters still hold the balance of power in many places, although that may now be eroding as they become less swing voters, and more reliable Pub voters up and down the ballot, ala lower SES white voters in the South).

Hey, suppose gays became the critical swing voter group holding the balance of power? Would rainbow flags be going up everywhere?  Tongue
