Goldwater easy. He was a honorable man and not that socially right wing. Our country would be much better off if we elected him in 1964.

Quite controversial to state that the U.S. would be better off if it were a radioactive apocalyptic wasteland, but I see your point.

He voted for the 1957 civil rights: https://www.govtrack.us/congress/votes/85-1957/s75

He would have not nuked Vietnam, LBJ ran against Vietnam and then he got us involved in it which resulted in 58000 deaths. LBJ lied in the 1964  and if I was alive then I would have voted for him but I would have regretted it by 1966. His war on poverty turned out to be a trillion dollar faliure as his war didnt do anything to do anything to solve the real of problem of poverty(People not getting edcuation, kids growing up with broken familes, not taught good values) as his presidency was when families started to break up and births out of wedlock started to go up and moral started to go down drastically. The only good thing of his presidency was before he was elected to a full term(Civil Rights, Voting Rights Act). LBJ also started this myth that we can spend our way to prosperity which cumulated in Bush JR taking it to the extreme.

He was one of the 3 worst presidents since WW2 behind Carter, and Bush JR

I guess I would go with Landon, though noting that he was largely non-horrible (relatively speaking) due to the political climate.

Really, running in an environment where people overwhelmingly hate your ideology seems to bring out the best in people.

Landon.  He would've made a good president, because he was moderate and actually supported most of the New Deal.
