I'm not sure. No year was really awful, but I definitely enjoyed elementary school more than high school. I'd guess either 9th, or 11th. Although even 9th and 11th had at least a few redeeming qualities.

Most of K-12 was miserable for me. I was never interested in what I was being taught, I never liked any of the other kids—I thought they were unimaginative, maladroit, and dull.  It was 9th grade when I first took notice of the maximum security lockdown, complete with armed police monitoring the perimeter of the school, when standardized testing (aka how school districtsnin Texas earn money) was taking place. I then made the connection with all the time we had spent memorizing the answers to the standardized test questions rather than actually learning anything. It was disturbing, and my view of the education system was jaded.

I dropped out of my senior year to play full time in a band, now I'm a data entry clerk. Life happens.

I just cut myself on your edge.

There's nothing edgy about that. It's a pretty common story.

Oh it was all terrible. The day I graduated was one of the happiest days of my life.

If I had to pinpoint one single year that was the worst, though, I'd probably have to say 7th grade. The awkwardness, simultaneously awareness and lack of awareness of social rules and expectations, frustration, lack of friends, inability to do things I wanted to because of parents, feeling caged, confusion at pubescent changes, it was all just a giant perpetuating slime of awful that seeped into everything. Luckily I was blessed with the eternal youthful angst-quelling jams of Korn and Limp Bizkit and Rage Against the Machine to sooth my loserdom into.. oh, no, wait, that didn't work out either. But I guess It Got Better™ eventually.

Interesting to see so many people saying Year 7. Though I guess in Australia it's the first year of high school rather than the 3rd year of middle school.

I voted Year 8. Just not much went right for me socially and academically.

For me, 7th grade wasn't that bad.  I was sick for almost all of it, so I missed a lot so school.  10 grade year was he'll for me, as well as 11th.  My best friend killed himself, and I just got really depressed.  My grades really suffered from it to.  My GPA dropped almost a whole two points.

Middle school was a horrible experience for me in general.

Worst-Elementary: 4th Grade? I thought the teacher was a jackass at the time, but looking back I can see where he was coming from. Eh, I don't have the fondest memories of 1st grade so I'll go with that.

Worst-Middle School: 6th grade was a turbulent and sh**tty time all around.

Worst-High School: Still in progress, but junior year looks like it'll take the cup.

Third grade.  My teacher was lame, 9/11 happened, and my aunt and uncle moved down South.

5th grade easily.

Bullying starts in late elementary school and continues through early high school, and those years aren't any better than middle school.

Middle school is terrible socially, but I found the academics in middle school to be more appealing than the end of elementary school.

7th grade. Having to put up with worthless teachers the whole year and idiotic schoolmates made it hell.

Thankfully 8th grade was awesome and set me for success in high school.

Elementary school:

Prohably 3rd. I had a lot of issues with my best friend, plus any personal group of friends I could get were viewed as a "club" which were fround upon in my school's society. Looking back, the lack of any friendship circle helped cause a lot of my social issues.

Middle School::

7th grade takes the cake. Social, emotiona, and even verbal abuse by peers and teachers. Needless to say  it was the last time I would be associated with that school.

High School:

Right now, I can't fully tell which is worse so far (mainly because I have some unfinished years), so far I could see Freshman year was the worst, mainly because it was simply not my year.

7th Grade, which was the last grade in primary school in Queensland until this year, was complete and utter sh*t for reasons.

If I may theorize as to why it's bad for so many, it is at the point where people are introduced to more mature topics and situations yet are on the whole are still pretty immature people. As such it's hard to navigate at first, leaving those who make mistakes to be more easily bullied or ridiculed by others.
