FC obviously. If America subsidised her agricultural markets on the demand side too, it'd be like a never ending buffet. This would be an excellent policy for the government to start giving to its employees. Very needed.

What exactly do you mean by meal subsidies? Like food stamps, or like employer owned cafeterias?

Like food stamps but as part of one's benefit package for employment with an entity.

Yes, say $50/day.

If it comes with a $300 signup bonus than it's even better.

Sounds like an attempt to privatize SNAP, or am I misunderstanding? If that is the case, 100% opposed.

In that case HP. Unless it's something that employees should be coerced into doing (basically retirement saving & health insurance), companies/the government should just dole out benefits in cash.

Overall, HC. For a few large employers, a free cafeteria for the employees to have breakfast and lunch at would be a positive benefit, but otherwise no.

Why would you vote Horrible Condition? I'd love it if my employer paid for all my meals!

If they gave me the equivalent in freely usable cash, I'd almost certainly come out ahead and I'd be more likely to get what I want to eat when I want to eat it.

I don't think we need subsidies to tell people that they should eat. Us Americans can do that quite well as it is.  Smiley

I agree with DC. I'd be horrified if someone told me that part of my compensation was being confiscated for food subsidies.

Ah no, you misunderstand. It's like a little more than 50% on top of what you are already being paid already. Too good to be true?

Sure sounds like it. Where is the money for this coming from?

Yeah it sounds a little sketchy. I think any business offering this might not be totally legit, what do you think?

It's also a lovely opportunity to remind said employees they should stay late at the office and get free supper too. In fact, why not build a corporate barracks while we're at it?

Oh no, this job is only 9 to 5 M-F. The meal subsidy would only be for the five days a week you work, but it covers all three meals. Make sense?

Maybe in your case. I do know folks who work places where the mentality differs from that some.

Consider that you would only have to spend your regular pay on food if it were the weekend, or for your family.  It's quite a relief on one's personal budget.

So why can't they just calculate the average cost per month per person and tack it onto everyone's paycheque?
