Just when you thought the UK's relationship to the rest of the world couldn't possibly get any worse.

Not a fan of Johnson, but to be fair to him he's not exactly Nigel Farage.

Doesn't everybody who has worked with him find him insufferable?

He's rubbed a few people up the wrong way, but he's not actively offensive a la Farage - I think the biggest criticism of him is his laziness more than anything else. Fwiw I suspect a lot of the heavy lifting in the ensuing negotiations will be handled by May herself and people like Liam Fox, whom I pleased to see back in the cabinet.

I mean, it kind of makes sense to have vocal Brexiters on most main government posts. I don't like it, but that's what people voted for.

True. On second thought I'm mostly concerned that I don't know much about Philip Hammond.

That's presumably all for tonight. The rest (still loads to announce and many more key positions) tomorrow I suppose. Wonder if Gove gets in. Also, Rudd aside, this looks like the most heavyweight cabinet in some time.

Fox will head an international trade department. Sounds logical since the UK will need to make their own trade deals now the UK is leaving the EU.

http://www.telegraph.co.uk/news/2016/07/13/prime-minister-theresa-may-makes-new-cabinet-appointments---as-b/

Well he'll bring his special advisers, ''think tanks'', ''charities'' and lobbyists, but I would wager he won't represent British interests...

https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Liam_Fox#Breaches_of_parliamentary_rules

Most horrid candidate given his record for that position (arms deals, etc). At least, as an Atlanticist, he will be popular with the GOP should they take the White House.

I wonder what is left of the international trade department. They'll have to employ specialists probably currently based in Brussels given the ordo-liberal nature of international trade these days.

Gove is finished with Boris in the cabinet. He is also famously on bad terms with May. Portillo admitted they hated each other.

He was the previous Foreign Secretary, and before that Defense Secretary.

I know, but I don't really have a good understanding of what he did with those positions, or what he's liable to do as Chancellor.

The thing is, under Osborne's Chancellorship, essentially every ministry (department of health and education excepted, which were ringfenced to allow breathing space for Lansley and Gove's reforms) was micromanaged by Number 11. So the legacy was really MoD shedding jobs from both the military and civilian sides; and the foreign Office mutating into an international branch of the Chancellory.

Worth noting the Foreign Office mandarins are going to very upset; like all diplomats they're scruffy and generally moaning gits....

And May has given away the Brexit negotiating, and trade meaning that the Foreign Office will just be a branch of BA

So has Hunt and Whittingdale. Javid and Letwin also are believed to be dropped. Supposedly Greening will get Education.

Hunt is back. Villiers has resigned, after being offered a position she apparently didn't want. Truss (of "pork markets in Beijing" and "the Brititsh cheese disgrace" fame gets Justice, Greening gets Education. Baroness Evans is leader of HoL, McLaughlin is Tory chairman.

Two departments are going to close: Energy and Climate Change; and Business, Innovation and Skills.

I pity the translators who will have to make desperate stabs to make Chinese/Spanish/Japanese translations of the endless waffle BoJo produces.
