A different category than usual, though still one that's kept track of in the leaderboard, but the Russia-Ukraine war megathread just surpassed the 2020 US election live commentary megathread in length thus becoming the longest thread in forum history.
A milestone indeed, though an expected and predictable one.

I would like to think Jaichind and SirWoodbury for doing the heavy lifting with regards to that.

Interesting numbers. The top 5 being about one in four posts bears out with what I would expect, though I would have anticipated more posts overall.
The number of people who have posted in this thread must run into the many dozens at this point.

At what pace am I entering the top 10? At what pace does OC hit 150,000?

Here’s a little list I compiled for fun.  It shows the top 5 users in post count by “class”, i.e. year of registration.  Some caveats:

  • Only users with at least 5000 posts are included.  As a result, the class of 2021 only has a top 2, while 2022 and 2023 don’t have anyone.
  • I used the member list off the main forum page, which I think excludes banned users.
  • For the sake of consistency, I used usernames; many of these people are better known by their display names.
  • Post counts were as of the time I looked at that user, and obviously will be changing.
  • Apologies if I missed anyone!

That probably blows my total out of the water.  On average, and as we approach my 7th anniversary on this site (registered 8/8/2016), I make around 378 posts per year.

almost 9 years since this was started. Guess I may as well update this.

1) For We Are Not Yet, We Are Only Becoming 111,633
2) PHARAOH BAKARI SELLERS 85,700
3) Filuwaúrdjan 67,418
4) minionofmidas 58,207
5) Antonio V 57,626
6) MASHED POTATOES. VOTE! 57,394
7)Southern Senator North Carolina Yankee 54,142
8 ) ○∙◄☻¥tπ[╪AV┼cVê└ 53,279
9) Keystone Phil 52,611
10) Torie 46,016

Changes since Tim's update in May 2023:

Olawakandi has narrowed the gap between him and BRTD for the top spot by 3030 posts. That's above Morden's calculated pace from Jan 2022, with a 378.75 post difference per month on average vs his 250 per month average. If this pace continues, OC will pass BRTD in a little under 6 years.

Antonio has taken Kal's 5th place spot and is almost certain to overtake Lewis Trondheim for 4th soon. Lewis isn't exactly gone, he was last online September of last year, but he hasn't posted since mid 2022.

jfern has overtaken Phil for 8th and considering NCY's hiatus will probably be in 7th soon.

Tender Branson being removed from the list because of his ban allows Torie to enter the top 10, though dead0man is not far behind and I expect he will enter the top 10 very soon.

also the class of 2023, previously dominated by Oleg, has him surpassed by a few posters owing to his activity declining later in the year.

All over 500:

riverwalk3: 2920
Aurelius2: 2019

Oleg: 1037
HL23: 957

BlahTheCanuck: 700

As far as the 2024 class goes, we have a total of 5 people with any posts:

It appears that Antonio has just officially passed Xahar for #10

1) BRTD 77,333
2) Al 60,430
3) Lewis 58,704
4) Phil 52,857
5) opebo 47,159
6) Kal 43,455
7) Eraserhead 41,763
8 ) Tender 39,992
9) Lief 39,750
10) Antonio 39,229

11) Xahar 39,225

Tender will also hit 40k very soon.

Interesting that it took me until 2016 to get to the top 10, and since then I've climbed all the way to #5 and will probably reach #4 this year, even though my posting rate has dropped considerably in the past few years. I guess we had so many historically active posters quit or become almost totally inactive, whereas I'm still slugging along.

#4 will probably be my peak, though. I'm never catching up to Al, OC or BRTD. And then in the next few years I'm probably going to be surpassed by a lot of the new crop of posters.

I'm wondering now if and when I would reach top 10. I'm almost at 40k and have had about 7-8k posts annually about three years straight.

because I was interested to see if I broke into the top 5 for the 2017 cohort, here's that:

1) 2023 Poster of the Year™ John Dule 18,035 (steady)
2) Dr. MB  15,655 (steady)
3) Sestak 13,229 (steady)
4) GM Team Member and Deputy PPT WB 13,221 (up 2)
5) HillGoose 12,805 (down 1)

6) darklordoftech 12,321 (down 1)

looks like i'll be overtaking Sestak for 3rd in the cohort soon.

Very close, but I've known I would surpass the duo of Joe and Badger for a while.

2) PHARAOH BAKARI SELLERS 86,521 (+821)
3) Filuwaúrdjan 67,509 (+91)
4) minionofmidas 58,207 (+0)

11) dead0man 45,798 (+277)

Dead0man is on track to break into the top 10 by mid-late March. Difference in posts between BRTD and OC is 424, which is even higher than previous averages. If that exact post difference is maintained, OC would overtake BRTD in almost exactly 5 years.

other overtakes possible:
Antonio taking Lewis Trondheim's 4th place position will happen around early May at this rate.
Jfern overtaking Yankee's 7th place position will happen around July.

After being gone for so so long, it amazes me that Lewis Trondheim is still 4th in active posts.  Damn man.  Smiley

seems like some thread Kal and Yankee both posted on must've been deleted? Meanwhile Scott jumps over Grumps and at this rate could jump over Torie for the 11th place spot (since Torie will fall to 11th soon) by the end of the year. Antonio has slowed down but is still on track to take Lewis' spot sometime in the middle of the year. OSR has overtaken Mr. Morden. Dead0man will overtake Torie by the beginning of April.

Meanwhile in the OC-BRTD race the differential in posts is about the same as last month, 412 this time instead of 424.

Doing this made me realize, does anyone know what happened to Xahar? He hasn't logged on in nearly 6 months. I'm a bit worried.

How reliable is that? I thought he just got tired of this place. I vaguely remember him saying as much some time ago before he disappeared.
