Representatives,
The Governor has nominated ilikeverin for the position of Chief Judicial Officer. If ilikeverin would like, you can make a statement to the Althing or wait to be questioned.

Members of the Althing,

First off, of course, *hughughug*!

I come before you today as a nominee for the Midwestern Chief Judicial Officer position.  I have been fortunate enough to serve the Midwest for many years, since I was Atlasia's very first governor elected in May 2004, so I know this region well.  I recently embarked on an attempt to keep the Wiki up-to-date on Midwestern law, which you can see here.  I hope I am able to earn your support.  I look forward to any questions you may have.

Hey.  What are some of the issues you would like to focus on as CJO?

I hope to keep working on my Wiki improvements, and to start weighing in on different laws or (especially) amendments as they come before the Alþing.

I'm fine with him, personally.  And, uh, *hughughug*.

What if any changes do you see needed in the Constitution of the Midwest?

What if any changes do you see needed in the Constitution of the Midwest?

An excellent question.  One example would be in the term of my own (proposed) position.  Right now, the Constitution essentially requires a CJO to be renominated every six months, which seems excessive; it seems like the removal powers of the Althing should be enough to kick a misbehaving (or inactive) CJO out of office, considering how infrequently the Midwest sees court cases.  There has also been the problem of Gass's powers as interim archduke recently, which seem poorly spelled out by the "Dude, Where's My Government Officer? Amendment".  We should clarify exactly what it means to take over someone's responsibilities: are they an officeholder in name now, or are they "just" a caretaker?

Of those two options, what one do you support, personally?

I think it's cleanest that they just take over the office entirely, title and all.  But that's just my preference.  As a CJO, I'd rule as the law was written.

Ok guys, I think we've had ilikeverin wait long enough and we really need a CJO during these troubling times in the region.

If there are no more questions we should move on to the confirmation vote.

Alright then, we will now move to final vote. Representatives, you may vote Aye, Nay, or Abstain.
