Discuss the elections here instead of the voting booth.

I understand completely if you didn’t want to vote for me…  But why BRTD?!?  Am I really that bad?

I’m sorry to be the one to inform you that your vote won’t count, according to Section II, Article I, Clause IV:

“The election will be held by instant runoff voting (IRV).  No write-in candidates will be accepted.  You must preference all candidates.  If both of those provisions are violated, the ballot will be considered spoiled and will be thrown out.  If only one of them is, the ballot will be placed aside in case of a tie.”

I’m not sure what will happen to your vote on the propositions.  The amendment that I wrote (which is on the ballot this election) will give you back your right to write-in.

Glad I live in the Southeast Region.  We have our own election problems, though.

I forgot something: The polls closed at 11:59 PM Central time. I apologize for starting the celebration early and even congradulating WiseGuy on what I thought was a victory.

We'll just have to hold another runoff. Tongue

Nope.  The rules for SE runoffs are as follows:

5. In the case of a tie vote for any election, a runoff election shall be held beginning within 24 hours after the end of the previous election. If the second runoff ends up in a tie, the term in question shall be split evenly and the candidate with the screen name that comes first alphabetically shall serve first split term, the second candidate alphabetically shall serve the second term, etc.

StatesRights is the SE governor until sometime in late May.

Well, even if it's unconstituational, I don't think you can throw out her vote. The official ballot reads

Governor

Valid selections:
CheeseWhiz (ACA-NE)
Write-in      <------
Abstain

So her vote isn't really invalid, the ballot itself is.

Given that BRTD is not going to win either way, do we really need to worry about whether or not that vote counts?

No, I think the law is dumb anyway, so I have no problem with letting the ballot count.

Federal Election Law

Above is a few pages I've put together on the wiki that give a guide to election law as it presently stands. The last one isn't finished yet.

The only close races are D3 and D4, and interestingly they might be close enough to send us to extra innings. Anybody got up to date figures?

Well, with a ballot containing false information, I suppose that election is open to judicial review.
Although I don't hope anybody sues.

Now...for the really important question: Why isn't the Election Thread stickied?

Its in the voting booth, where nothing needs to be stickied because it won't fall that far down.

Turnout level in the Midterms is presently at 32.1%.

Only 13.6% of the citizens are asterisked, so this means a lot of asterisks coming if people don't come to vote.  Smiley

Discuss.
