In keeping with the "Era of Good Feeling" that began under President Marshall, the presidency of DeWitt Clinton has been generally tranquil, at least from the public's perspective. Thanks to the system of internal improvements begun under Marshall and continued by the present administration, settlement of the west has increased like never before, driving a new era of economic prosperity. Meanwhile, Clinton has begun the process of wooing former Federalists into the fold of the Democratic-Republican Party, with the result that the party of Hamilton and Marshall is severely weakened as the end of the current term approaches.
The party system that has dominated the United States is dying as the Democratic-Republican and Federalist parties prepare to hold their nomination caucuses in advance of the 1820 election. Though President Clinton is the favorite to win the nomination of his party, a band of stalwart "Old Guard" Republicans is pushing for the nomination of Congressman John Randolph, who is calling for a return to the policies of states' rights and agrarianism, and who over the last four years has become Clinton's greatest enemy in Congress. On the other side of the aisle, the Federalists are expected to nominate former Secretary of State Rufus King, though some members of the party, sensible to the seeming inevitability of Clinton's reelection, have suggested nominating the incumbent in hopes of at least elected a Federalist vice president.
Two days. Shall the two party system live on? Or will Clinton become the ATL Monroe?

Seeing as both of these gentlemen are from Virginia, I unfortunately can't grant this request. Rest assured that Monroe will have a part to play in the event of a Randolph administration, though.

In a quixotic turn of events, John Randolph is the Republican nominee, while DeWitt Clinton has been renominated, not by his own party, but by the Federalists. Meanwhile, former Sec. of State Rufus King has returned to his native Massachusetts to stand as Clinton's running mate in the general election. 1820 will be up either tonight or tomorrow.
