Maybe now that he's an oscar winner he'll stop going by "Eddie"...

Buh-bye Birdman sweep. Hello three-hour wedding video as Best Picture, I guess.

God I hope so. There is something deeply unsettling about Alejandro González Iñárritu winning three (3) oscars in one night.

Agreed. It should be two (2) Oscars. Linklater should have won Best Director.

EDIT: Moore wins Best Actress; precisely nobody is surprised, nor should they be.

I don't think any host's stock has ever been decimated as much as NPH's was after tonight.

YES! Birdman!

Now I don't have to see Boyhood, which looked awfully boring.

Boyhood wasn't boring, as such; it should have won Best Director for holding together as well as it did (see also Life of Pi, not as good a film as the other 2012 nominees, but one that required more directorial skill to make work), and Arquette's award was definitely well-deserved.

NPH might be the worst host in Oscar history. At least dumb mediocre choices like James Franco and Anne Hathaway had low expectations. NPH has the ability to do better and completely bombed.

It's okay. No one will remember Birdman in two years. Boyhood will endure for many decades.

Agree that NPH was a complete disaster. Worst I've ever seen.

That is sad.

And it's not really fair to say Boyhood 'barely grossed anything'. It made back eleven times its budget.

I feel like nobody knows Boyhood now (hardly grossed anything) yet everyone talks about Birdman.

Sadly American Sniper will endure more than any of them.

Action war movies don't really endure. I know because I've seen so many. Just last year there was Lone Survivor, which had a similar box office run but is pretty well usurped. Expect to see more heroic war stories, though. It's pretty clear that makes good money in January.

I got 20/24 right on my predictions. These things are just so damn predictable for the most part.

I wish Keaton had won (even though I predicted Redmayne).

I was right for 12 out of the 16 I predicted. Pretty boring night, but I was happy to see GBH do well in the technicals and Ida get best foreign film, even if it was expected.

To snub Boyhood in this manner is a crime that will haunt each of them till the day they die.

Good results!

As to the staying power bit, I'm not sure a lot of them have it, though. I really doubt that American Sniper has a lot of staying power. Anyone really remember The Hurt Locker? Or The Departed? Meanwhile, Goodfellas, which did not win all the way back in '90, is remembered as a true classic.

I think from what I have read Birdman was a great choice. I hope to catch it this week, I'm interested in its analysis of the movie industry. Also hope to catch The Theory of Everything sometime soon.

Honestly, which 2014 movies will be really remembered in ten years? Probably Interstellar, as it's one of the top movies in its genre already, but beyond that?

Birdman, Boyhood, and American Sniper are very time-specific movies, and Grand Budapest Hotel will probably blend in with Anderson's other movies. Biopics are quickly forgotten. Whiplash is a maybe, but most people don't know about it even now. Gone Girl doesn't seem like the type of movie to endure, but who knows. All the superhero movies blend together, but maybe GotG has a chance... I kind of doubt it, though. Maybe The Lego Movie? Edge of Tomorrow? I honestly don't see 2014 as a very "historic" year for movies.

The Lego Movie is definitely worth remembering.

I really need to watch Gone Girl and Interstellar, I'm so enraged to have missed them.
