Anyways, Skykomish usually refers to an area in the Northeast of the county, far from Seattle in this 2000+ square mile county.

The House voted to create a new county there in the mid 90s, but pressure from Governor Locke kept it from going to the Senate.

lol, Mish.

With all the speculation that William Rufus King was gay, I'm actually mildly surprised that they would rename it

It was so nice of Gregoire to sign the bill.

It will be interesting to see how it impacts on the special election.

What special election would that be?

The one the judge will be ordering.

For the governor's race? OK...

You're right Lewis, it was renamed in 1986. But the county name was changed, it was still King County, just "changed" who it was named after. But now they've added three new words to it; Martin, Luther, and Junior.
No. They didn't.

Care to explain?

If I understood that article right (and this would also explain why most news agencies didn't bother reporting), they merely changed who it's named after. Exactly as the King County Council had done in 1986 - except that the King County Council had no authority whatever to do so.
