These are the world's 10 worst cities to live in, according to the Economist Intelligence Unit global “liveability” study, which looks at how “tolerable” it is to live in a particular place given its crime levels, threat of conflict, quality of medical care, levels of censorship, temperature, schools and transport links.

There are 10 options, so there must be one that is less bad than the others.

Algiers seems to be most interesting of the lot. Probably the most attractive anyway.

Everything I've heard about Port Moresby makes it sound like a complete dump and alien from the rest of PNG.

Abidjan. Teheran if I was male. Can't believe anyone would vote Port Moresby.

Why, what's wrong with Port Moresby?  I admit I know very little about it.

Quite frankly, it's a dump.

As for me, I find Karachi strangely attractive.

Algiers is the only one I could say I would be actually cool with living in, with Tehran as an uncertain, trailing 2nd.

I'd feel safest in Harare, but I might be picturing it as too South Africaesque in my head. If not Harare, I'd say Algiers.

And the other 9 cities are not dumps?  I was just wondering what makes it worse than the other cities on the list.

I don't know what your religious beliefs are, but for a irreligious person such as myself Iran is probably not the best option since it's one of the few countries in the world where atheism is punishable by death (see this story from the Washington Post: http://www.washingtonpost.com/blogs/worldviews/wp/2012/12/10/the-seven-countries-where-the-state-can-execute-you-for-being-atheist/ ).

I have not been there personally, so based on pics and tales by friends, but it is a very dangerous town, hot, humid, congested and with no redeeming features such as beautiful buildings or cultural attractions. Melanesian culture is rural and with the exception of Port Vila in Vanuatu their towns are unattractive places filled with uprooted people and not much to do or see, this is especially so in PNG.

The other cities on the list are major cultural centers in their own right with some architectural treasures and a lot of activities. They may be hard and dangerous to live in, but at least it would be interesting.

Do the ski areas north of Teheran count too ?

If yes, there. The city of Teheran is simply too dirty and horrible.

The other places, maybe except Algier, are just hellholes.

Definitely Teheran (anywhere above the smog cloud and urban sprawl, and it's almost like here or in Colorado):
