I'd rather live in a nation governed by the principles of Social Democracy, of course.

I require more information than this to answer. The latter generally took hold in countries which had much lower standards of living in the first place, and so comparing Norway with Laos is rather unfair.

Depends on the internal climate of the Marxist-Leninist state in question. There's obviously a big difference between Cuba from 1961 to 1971 and the USSR from 1923 to 1953, for instance.

Right, it's not a 'serious question' to ask whether or not someone would prefer living in a country where they have a guaranteed right to a job, medical care, housing, etc. or one in which they only have partial or compromised access to *some* of those things. Roll Eyes

Getting decent food, medical care and housing without bribes or connections is a bitch in communist countries.

The one that has actually succeeded in practice rather than theory.

You can't be serious.

Anyway, social democracy is by far a lesser of two evils here.

I am serious, in fact the only thing she liked about the CCCP is the ease of access(except during the late 80s but that's Brezhnev's fault.)

I don't know what you mean by ease of access, and Brezhnev died in 1982.

Ease of access to services tended to correlate with a) Party membership and b) seniority within the Party.

As in it was very easy to get medical attention or food etc. About Brezhnev, have you heard about the Era of Stagnation?

Considering my family lived it, yes I have heard of the Era of Stagnation. I also question how easy it was to get food, considering stories of having to wake up early to stand in specific lines for specific products, and the quality of the medical care, considering that when my father was 2 years old (so, 1973) he nearly died of dysentery.

Which city did your family live in? Mine lived in Perm so there might be a difference due to size.
