None of us can know that, and Jeff's never gone into detail. While I think their indulgence of his listlessness is a poor choice on their parts, there are likely pieces of the story that we don't know. They could be living paycheck to paycheck, or his dad could have been socking away $100 a week in a high-yield investment account for the last 45 years.

And if his father has been with Northrop any length of time, it's possible that he's got a pension plan set up.

No, but they need to make massive cuts to entitlement spending.

I've long not really understood his parents' financial situation at all. It really doesn't seem like they're hurting for money.

They probably filed for bankruptcy a long time ago and will probably have to again. It's an extremely common thing that nobody ever talks about.

I'm not a real follower of this Bush character, but I suspect his parents have loads of money.

Not buying the trailer story either.

To be fair, our only source is Bushie and I doubt he knows much about it or has ever asked.

They live in the middle of nowhere, Joklahoma, and they live in a trailer. With poppa bushies job, I'm sure they have quite a bit saved up to be able to support Jeffie until he gets on disability, or kicks it in the next few years.

His parents, including Our Dear Friend, are probably wealthy and the joke is on us.

BushOK is just an internet persona created to troll us. In fact, Jeff is an heir to a great fortune and British Earldom.

Here's the thing - houses are dirt cheap in Oklahoma, so considering all the tornadoes and whatnot, why would you live in a trailer unless that was all you could afford?

Perhaps it's a metaphor for the decline of the American Middle Class: Grandma Bushie lives in a real house; Papa and Mama Bushie live in a trailer home; and Bushie himself does not own his own home at all, being consigned to apartments and Grandma's spare bedroom.

Guys, part of being a child is naivety about your parent's financial situation. Bushie's family could be near destitute and we not know it because Bushie doesn't know it as he doesn't know how money works.

I would call their situation "struggling".

I wonder how long before Bushie hits puberty. 40? 45?

They don't strike me as being wealthy at all, but maybe they have money saved up that allows them to pay for Bushie's apartment and other big expenses.

More likely, they are heavily in debt.

A valid point.  I sort of feel bad if they are struggling, but in all honesty they've brought it upon themselves with their poor decision making.
