Does anyone have any good movie suggestions -- preferably historical fiction or historical drama (something like Hotel Rwanda)?

That is too broad a question.  Good movie suggestions?  What have you already seen?  I could list 100 movies, but maybe you've already seen all of them.  Even within "historical fiction or historical drama", that's too broad a category.  But I'll get you started.  I've re-watched both "Paths of Glory" and "Judgment at Nuremberg" in the past year, and they both hold up well, if either of those is something you might be into.

Maybe The Killing Fields? I don't know.

Generally, though Amadeus, Becket, and The Lion in Winter come to mind.

I liked Hotel Rwanda as well.

If you enjoy being nervous and depressed while studying man's inhumanity toward his fellow man, try 12 years a slave, the Boy in the Striped Pajamas, or Casualties of War.

If you don't mind a look at LGBT,Milk is absolutely fantastic.

Also Dr. Strangelove if you haven't seen it. Excellent satire.

All these suggestions sound great. Thanks guys!

Mr. Morden, I apologize for the broadness of the question. I've watched a fairly limited amount of English-language movies. So it's likely that I won't have seen any movies recommended here.

Burn!

It's probably the best movie ever made about colonialism.
