Bushie, do you realize you have delayed Papa's retirement by years?  The poor guy has to work with a bad back for several extra years because you can't get out of his checkbook. Ugh.

Actually, that's not true.  He didn't start working at this current company until 1999 and needs to get 20 years in to have any kind of retirement.  That would be 2019.  He said he plans to work until he turns 70 which would be in 2022.

What you're missing is, he perceives that he needs "X" amount of retirement benefits and savings to retire in 2022.  Being in their checkbook to what I'd guess is about $25K so far has greatly reduced "X", and he might have to work longer to make up the difference.

Quit being a mean, Uncle Gramps.  I'm sure the platinum cable package so Bushie can watch Southwest Central Vermont Institute Of Technology take on Barrow Alaska High School Football Late 90s All-Stars in Division 6B football is far more important than silly things like retirement.

Bushie has easily blown more than $25k of his Dad's retirement fund each year since the Update began. His grand total at this point has to be a few hundred thousand.

Furthering the idea that Update is a very drawn out version of Breaking Bad.

The good news is that Mama just decided to retire anyway at expense of Papa working more. RIP Papa.

I imagine a hereditary clock watcher like Mama was itching to retire, though.

Bushie really is his mother's boy.

Indeed.  They went to buy him slacks not 3 months ago.  Over/under that Ma Bushie came into the changing room to help?

I think the main point of the Tulsapartment is to get Jeffie out of the house so Ma and Pa Bushie can have some well-deserved alone time.  Anything that might lessen the appeal of the place is probably a no-go.  The alternative is having Jeff laying around and putzing about the house.

Here is a good update from the employment world.  While nobody can confirm anything at this point, there is growing speculation that we will have enough work to take us deep into the Spring.  It could still end in March, but everybody is guessing April or maybe even May.  Also, they are still very much intent on putting us all on another contract after this contract ends.  Again, nothing is confirmed nor denied at this point, but it took us 10 weeks to reach our first deadline, much of which was slowed down by holiday vacations.  We still have gobs of deadlines to go through before this contract is in the books.  This news all but closes the book on Tulsa.  Current thinking is that after I turn in the notice to vacate in Tulsa toward the end of March, I will start looking for an apartment in either Yukon or Mustang (western suburbs of OKC in eastern Canadian County) which are within 5-7 miles of work instead of 32 one way.  It would greatly cut down on gas money and wear and tear on the car.  I would just have the furniture moved from the Tulsa apartment to the Oklahoma City Metro apartment.  As far as the gas money goes, as soon as I get this new computer paid off, which should be by August or September, I need to trade in my car for a newer model to get out ahead of the repair bills.  My car still runs great, but I am seeing signs that the repair bills may be right around the corner.  It is a 2006 model with almost 140,000 miles.  Remember it did have a total body makeover last February thanks to a rendezvous with Bambi.

You financed a computer?!

And you don't need a new car. You really have no business making any major discretionary purchases until you've got an emergency fund of 3-6 months of wages put away somewhere. You have a Sentra. Like its Civic and Corolla brethren, it was designed to be driven into eternity with relatively few issues. I see plenty of old ones on the road all the time.

I put the computer on my Best Buy Credit Card.  Nothing wrong there.

I know my car better than you do.

Of course, there is ABSOLUTELY NOTHING WRONG with carrying a credit card balance with a 20+% APR from now until August or September for a computer that you didn't need.

What kind of rig did you buy that you're taking nine months to pay off?

Dare I ask how much your computer was?  Did you at least get no interest?

It was at least $599. That's the minimum for 18 month financing from Best Buy.

How many computers does Bushie have? I remember his parents bought him a touchscreen desktop when he started CADD school, a laptop just last month, a tablet a while back, and an iphone. Now he has another computer? The desktop I bought at WalMart about 5 years ago for $400 still works great for me. I thought it was getting slow on me, but the problem was Internet Explorer. I use Chrome now and it works great.

It wasn't the top of the line.  I didn't put THAT much on my card.  It should only take me 6-7 months to pay off.

I thought the parents gave you a $750 gift card to buy it. Why the need to charge it?
