I'd be very surprised if Jeb runs.  Politicians who want to be president don't spend 10 years out of the public limelight for no reason.

Well, his brother's Presidency went to hell in 2006 when Jeb's term ended. He would've run in 2008 if George had 50% approval ratings. It's probably for the best he hid.

There was Gingrich. And also some others who were mostly seen as jokes: Gravel,  Roemer, Johnson.

That's fine. Still, they were never more important in that scene than the Rockefellers or the Tafts, which makes them having two Presidents who were both unpopular and possible a third nominee, again, stranger.

Maybe because the second George Bush wanted to one-up his dad (and his brother)? It's hard to see a President Jeb Bush in the years 2001-2009 being as incompetent and unpopular as his brother was. I also don't think Dick Cheney would have been much of a player in a Jeb Bush administration, if he would be in it at all.

The President Bushes had the worst job growth since Hoover. And Samuel Bush (grandfather of HW) was an economic adviser to Hoover. Needless to say, we don't need to repeat the experiment of seeing whether President Bushes are terrible for the economy.
