This comparison looks more appropriate than the one with Eastern Prussia. There's already a hot Australia, so no.

No.  Bad for Francophones in the rest of Canada (which there are plenty of), worse for Anglophones in Quebec (again, more than you would expect), and I can't even imagine how isolated the Atlantic provinces would have become.

A very strong NO! This would not have been good for Canada as a whole. Just as I strongly disagree with English-only sentiment in the US, I also have no respect for the anti-Anglophone sentiment in the PQ (which would undoubtedly dominate Quebec politics post-sovereignty).
