A good article on whether Senate Majority Leader Harry Reid will run for re-election in 2016. Some say he may retire because he's getting "old and tired".

Yeah, and he probably will win.

I don't think he should run, though.

If the dems dont do badly, and a bare majority is still in place, he will likely stay on due to our likelyhood of keeping our majoruty status with a Hilary running.

Reid is more unpopular than McConnell in a swing state much more competitive than Kentucky and will most likely face a moderate Hispanic and popular Republican already elected once to statewide office against a Reid. He'll run again and get butchered.

Almost forgot, he's also managed to piss off the biggest names in Republican financing.

Yes, and he'd probably win.

Yes, and he'd win against anyone but Sandoval.

He's lucky 2016 is a presidential year, so it'll be Clark County vs. rest of state.

If he runs, he will win. Even against Sandoval, who won't run.

Option 1 is the best guess.

How can you say that for sure? Barring Sandoval screwing up the first half of his second term, I think he'd do well against Reid in 2016.

Sandoval is not likely to run. Jon Ralston, the guru of NV politics, is fairly convinced that Sandoval is more interested in a federal judgeship than a senate run. I am inclined to believe Ralston given his track record. Anyway, even if Sandoval does run, I would think the race would be a tossup at worst for Reid. Reid has all the connections needed in Nevada and has a tacit detente pact with Adelson. I would expect the race to come down to turnout and the Reid machine usually prevails.

I have a hard time believing that Sandoval would want to be a Judge rather than a Senator.

Not everyone gets a hard-on from working in DC. Some people hate it, myself included.
