Would the stain of possible corruption by Rick Perry somehow be enough to make the race more competitive and put Davis over the top ? Would/could this stain of corruption be far reaching and affect Abbott by association? Or is as it looks, Davis cooked due to midterm demographics and a thus far mediocre campaign?

Maybe if Abbott is somehow also implicated.

It might have been possible that this could make the race competitive if the Democrats nominated a serious candidate, but they didn't, so no.

Even if he were convicted, it's not going to happen until well after the election.

Who would you have had them pick? Does Bill White need to spend more of his money on a 2014 mulligan?

Seems like a Nixon-McGovern scenario (except that Perry isn't running).  The incumbent is a crook, but the opponent just isn't competent--so I look for a big Abbott win.

Perry isn't going on trial before election day.  The justice system doesn't move that fast.  So he can't be convicted before election day.

Even if the trial were to occur before November, Perry is not going to be convicted of anything, anyway.  The charges are very weak.  Perry has a right to veto funding for a DA who has shown that she is unfit to serve by getting arrested for DUI.  And that's basically all he is charged of doing.

No. This race will be the 10-15 point win that all Texas race are for Republicans. Move along...

No, but solely because the conviction will come down after Nov. 4.

He can' t be convicted.

It would have to be some kind of plea bargain.

And that would be harmful to the Republicans. It would probably give Davis a chance, just because it would be a few poor news cycles shortly before the election.
