It's a shame he's Joe Millered himself. He probably could've gotten elected Governor or to Congress in the future, had he bowed out gracefully.

He still could easily get elected to at least a U.S. House seat.

Nah, Palazzo's narrow margin was more of a testament to Taylor than a knock on him.

There were serious illegalities in this race. Had the Dems stayed out of the GOP primary after voting in their own, he would've won and Thad would be retiring at the end of the year.

None of what you're describing is illegal.

Well, Democrats who voted in the original primary aren't allowed to then vote in the Republican run-off. That said, I believe the total number of these "crossover" votes was small and certainly not enough to overcome a 7,800 vote margin.

It technically is illegal to vote in a primary if you have no intention of supporting whoever wins no matter what, but that's impossible to prove (and has been declared such).

But as I've mentioned, I do kinda sympathize with him, since I'd be so infuriated if a bunch of Republicans tainted a Democratic primary like that. It is indisputable that McDaniel got a majority of the Republican vote on June 24.

These are not illegalities. This is an essence of "open primary"... If it's open - anyone can vote anyway in any primary (in run-off - if he/she didn't voted in first primary for some party).. So - it's absolutely normal.

Judge Hollis McGehee, appointed by Mississippi Chief Justice William Waller, states he will take up McDaniel's case and a date for the trial to begin has been set. Cochran also demands the case be thrown out.

According to the McDaniel campaign, there's even more great news! The judge wants this done in a timely manner, and Judge McGehee has stated he reserves the right to unseat Senator Thad Cochran after the November election if necessary and that election records will be preserved as evidence for the trial. Also, if the judge rules in the plaintiff's favor, the ballots will still be able to be reprinted with McDaniel's name on the ballot.

Childers should be crossing his fingers leading up to the judge's decision. The election records could be enough proof in itself to show that McDaniel won outright on June 4th with actual Republican support. If McDaniel does pull this off, he's earned it, but beating Childers in the general would be far from a guarantee.

Like IceSpear said, I'm sure McDaniel will appeal. He's not the type to fade away quietly.

I don't think he really expects this to get anywhere. At this point, he probably just wants to make life hell for everybody.

Yeah, had McDaniel just rode off in the sunset after the run-off he totally could have had almost any Federal or Statewide office in a couple years. He's young - unlike Cochran. His doors were (and I guess still are) open.
