FDR was no lock for the nomination going into the convention and John N. Garner was considered a leading challenger from the South. Garner wins the nomination for the Conservatives within the party. You pick the VP.

Also Herbert Hoover decides to drop Charles Curtis in a last attempt to gain momentum, you pick the new Republican VP candidate.

Hoover does a little better, but still loses big.

Speaker John Nance Garner/Senator Key Pittman 413 EV. 54.9%
President Herbert Hoover/Secretary of State Henry Stimson 118 EV. 42.6%
