It's looking like Maryland LG Anthony Brown (D) will break the curse of LG's going to the governorship in their own right coming on November 4th.

Other recent Maryland LG's haven't fared well when they ran for higher statewide office on their own.
2006-Michael Steele (R): lost bid for United States Senator
2002-Kathleen Kennedy Townsend (D): lost bid for the governorship due to her own arrogance (taking up her late uncle's BS) of ignoring critical voters.
1994-Melvin Steinberg (D): lost bid for Governor in the Democratic primary
1978-Blair Lee III (D): lost bid for Governor in the Democratic primary due to backlash over then-Gov. Marvin Mendel (D)'s corruption scandals.
