I think my description of the Green Party base was pretty dead on. Basically, a coalition of old granola eating tree huggers and young, upper class white kids.

While watermelons aren't that good in politics, they are better than the sour lemons that make up the Libertarian Party.

For all the New Age mandalas and tantric chanting, they're still more grounded in reality than the Republicans are in their demon-haunted world.

Points 5 and 6 of their "Ten Key Values" are decentralization and community-based economics. If they took that seriously rather than tending to fall back on central planning my opinion of the Greens would be higher.

Kind of silly old bourgeois reformists, but still better than the Democrats, Republicans, or Libertarians.

I basically consider them to be on the same level as the Communist Party of Greece for this reason: http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Ralph_Nader_presidential_campaign,_2000

I will NEVER NEVER NEVER NEVER vote for any of their candidates for ANYTHING on principal. If it was a Green vs. Republican race I'd do a write-in.

and to think if a few hundred greens in Florida had voted for among the most environmentally minded candidates to ever run for a major party, hundreds of thousands of Iraqis may not have died violent deaths

He might have launched air strikes like Clinton did but I doubt Gore would have launched a ground invasion.

It is pretty ironic to think that of all people the Green Party stops from being president, it's Al Gore.

This insult doesn't really work, as many Greens are quite open about having socialist leanings.

Anyhow, FP but obviously irrelevant in the U.S.

Gore was a vocal opponent of invading Iraq and spoke out against it even before it occurred.

An unfortunate drain on potential Democratic votes in a two-party system.

Also, probably well-meaning, but probably not grounded in pragmatism or reality, though I can't speak to all Green Party members.
