Of all the presidents elected to two terms before Obama, only one (Ronald Reagan) left office with dignity.

Will Obama leave with dignity too?

Reagan wouldn't have left office with dignity if Dukakis had won, I'll tell you that much.

The Republicans may shut down his government but they can't shut down his dignity.

Yes. He will whine and play the victim card, and he will probably pout bitterly in retirement, but he won't pull a Clinton by looting the place.

Hopefully not, given that the man is a war criminal who needs to spend his post-presidency in a prison cell, not a cushy new mansion.

Certainly he'll leave with more dignity than Eric Cantor.

Are you sure True Federalis?

Seriously, I think that Eric Cantor, while humiliated, has still left office with dignity.

Really? I don't know if it's different in English, but from my definition of these words it seems possible to me for someone to face humiliation with dignity. Humiliation is a matter of public image, while dignity is a trait of personal behavior.

That is certainly a valid distinction to make, though these words can be used in more than one way.

Cantor has made the best out of a very humiliating situation, but considering that he managed to make Romney look like a good judge of electoral outcomes by comparison, I can't say Cantor has managed to hold onto much dignity.

This is as dumb and ludicrous a fantasy as the Freeper dream of Obama getting impeached, tried, and executed for presidenting while black Benghazi/IRS/Solyndra/[insert scandal of your choice here].

If by "dignity" you mean "without a major scandal," then yes.  While he's certainly had his share of ethical controversies (Benghazi, IRS, VA, fast and furious), none of them are quite up to the level of Teapot Dome, Watergate, etc.  If you mean personally popular, then yes.  If you mean politically popular, then probably not.
