I have a strong positive opinion of libertarians. However, I have an equally strong negative opinion of objectivists (i.e., Ayn Rand-type libertarians).

You can be a libertarian and a populist.

Pardon my ignorance, but how?

I mean in a very general sense, libertarian means wanting less government, populism means wanting more government.

No, populism involves supporting "common people" against "elites." Someone could be a libertarian, but still the "common people."

The opposite of libertarianism is statism, not populism.

Posing the individual against "big government" is a form of populism.

I have a good opinion of moderate libertarians, moderate Democrats and moderate Republicans. I'm a creature of the political centre,

I agree, but on this forum, populism has become the accepted opposite.

But the question is, why?

On this forum there are some very reasonable Libertarians. On most forums, I have to admit they are mostly human trash, however.

I have positive view, mostly because I know a lot of libertarians personally and find them to be nice people. I don't like self-styled libertarians who are really conservatives minus the moralism. Libertarianism is essentially a liberal philosophy, a variety of classic liberalism. But many American libertarians are really conservatives. I probably dislike these more than actual conservatives.

I'm a small L libertarian- I'm an independant; my Libertarian avatar is due to ideological similarity. I don't like the Libertarian Party itself- it generally emphasises the wrong issues, doesn't have a very good foreign policy, is generally impotent in national politics, and comes of as a tad too extremist for my tastes.

For Libertarians as a whole, however, I have a very positive opinion. Granted, there are a few crazies, but most are a tad more sensible and I agree with them on most issues.

Neutral.  They are essentially the flip side of the coin of communists.  They are highly misguided.

Bacon King - JOIN THE LIBERTARIAN PARTY. We won't get anywhere unless we get enough moderate libertarians in the party to change it to where it could get elected.

That's what I hope to do Smiley  Even though I'm pretty extreme as a libertarian, I'm going to endorse the more moderate Libertarians, so that we might be able to actually win some stuff for a change Cheesy
