Would you guys stop posting information from my Facebook, please.  That is not cool and totally undeserved.  Why can't you put the Update completely to bed?  This forum was fine before it and it will be fine without it.  Give it a rest already.

Bushie please stop driving to your laundry room. You should not have to get in your car to transport yourself a quarter of a mile. Jesus.

Gawdam, that should be illegal! Around these parts, the school bus won't even come if you live within 800m of a school.

And to be honest, taking a bus for even 900 m would be rather absurd...

Well, maybe not for kindergarteners. Bushie is far from 4 or 5 though.

So is there a tentative premiere date for the next season yet?

We should start a tipping competition on the premiere date.

You may have a point there. After July 4, there's really nothing else in the way of focusing on Christmas.

Bushie, are you going to post an update here when you get engaged for real (I assume you're still only "undercover engaged"?)?

(I assume that Mondale exposing the fact that you got engaged to future employers isn't a major worry?)

Bushie's engaged?

I'm just going by what I remember him saying on Update before it was locked.  He said that he was "undercover engaged", and that he and Allison would get engaged for real some time after he established himself in his new job.  So that's what I'm asking about.  Assuming that a real engagement happens this year, I'm asking whether he intends to post that info here, or if his ban on Update extends even to major life events.

Ok, gotcha.  I doubt the call center job is the new job he's talking about, so it might take some time to come out from under the covers.

Even presuming the new job works out, and of course it probably won't, what I don't understand is why he would move out of town to take a $9/hour job, when he could much more easily make $7.25 at BigBox Mart in OKC and have far fewer expenses. That extra $2/hour doesn't even begin to cover the expenses associated which the extra household he is creating.
More generally, I strongly believe the American imperative of absolute independence is a major practical financial problem for young people today. We need to purge the stigma of living at home. It's better for everybody except real estate and debt speculators, and better for the environment for Millenials to remain with the parents as long as possible. Living at home, at least until a sizeable pot of cash, including a liquid emergency fund and a healthy portfolio  of retirement vehicles, upon which to found a new family is by far the smartest thing today's 20 somethings can do. Stop trying to impress your friends with a super cool apartment in the trendy neighborhood, and get your longtern financial plan in gear immediately. Wisdom>cool points.
Another critical piece of insight brought to you by Update. I challenge anybody to find another literary work that so thoroughly encompasses the themes of life in a today's America. Update makes Dickens look like the work of a child. Bushie deserves a Nobel Prize.

Yeah, but then you have to live with your parents. Is quality of life not important too?

Amen.  I was out the door at 20, and had no money, and worked really hard and I survived.....go figure.

The additional money one can save is, by itself, an enormous addition of quality of life. Unless family tension is absolutely unbearable, I can't see the trade off being worth it until financial comfort is acheived. I don't see living on credit cards and praying for no unexpected bills to be much in the line of quality of living. This is especially true in the US, where one can lose a job at a moment's notice and even a minor medical issue can easily produce thousands of dollars in medical bills. Maybe things are differe t in more civilized nations.  If maintaining a seperate household is that important, amp up the frugality and get there more quickly.

He had already moved out of his parents' place when he was still in OKC.

I suppose independence is not something that's important to you. OK, but please respect that for many people it is rather important, and are willing to suffer the economic drawbacks for it.

Well, whatever happens with his employment status, I expect an "official" engagement within six months.  This is Bushie we're talking about.
