Should I stop starting threads about mathematical problems?
A user (whose name begins with an o s) reported such a thread. So I'd better ask...

Yes, if you want to post the odd one out here or there, that's fine, but the range and caliber of your threads end up with multiplied anger from people who will say mean things to you.

Okay, I didn't know that. But imho it is not a nice way to report proper posts just because you don't like them...

Should I stop starting threads about mathematical problems?
A user (whose name begins with an o) reported such a thread. So I'd better ask...

People who report threads are thinking on the lowest order of thought.  They are those who wear their seatbelts because it is the law, and not because in 87% of all accidents you are more likely to survive if you wear it.  They are not bad people, just worker bees.  I have been posting here for well over ten years, and I have never, ever felt the urge to report a poster or to use the "ignore" feature.  Still, I do not bear onerous tidings toward those who do.  They have, after all, been schooled in a culture of fear and of litigation.  Forgive them, for they know not what they do.  It is the moderators that you should hold in contempt, and if the revolution begins, it is against the moderators that your revenge should be visited.  Only they can delete your posts without your knowledge.  Only they can give you death points.  Only they can ban you.  The others are minions.  Do not hold grudges against those poor bastards.  Hold your grudges tightly, and savor them until the day comes when you can rise against those who control their limited thoughts.  Toward your brothers who are too ignorant to appreciate that they serve their masters, you should feel only love and compassion.

Peace be with you, my brother.

Oakvale and Snowstalker hating you is a good thing, they are trolls which should have been brought back into the line months ago.

Guys, I actually did not report any thread by excelsus. I don't have a problem with him. My post in his "i" thread was a joke.

Basically the only things I report (believe it or not) are NYE spam in the wrong boards and posts that are genuinely vile (Obamanation's "filthy sluts" thing etc.).

e: I'm sure a mod can confirm...?

I have thoroughly enjoyed your math threads. Especially because of the interesting responses from angus and muon. Reminds me of other forums where people would argue about .999... = 1 for thirty pages. I am a masochist I suppose.

My post in his "i" thread was a joke.

Sadly, your jokes aren't funny to most people.

I'm sorry, Max. Please report any future attempts at humour which you find upsetting and I'm sure the appropriate action will be taken.

A short while ago I was looking at my profile and it said ... 1 post reported. I almost had a coronary.
Immediately afterwards I was looking at his thread and I read your post.
As a consequence I thought you were the snitch.
In case I'm wrong I'll apologize to you.

I don't know what to tell you. Unless I had a fugue state I don't think I reported your thread. You can ask Torie or someone I guess? No apology is necessary.

Oakvale hasn't actually reported anything that he has claimed to, and I figured it was obvious to most people that he was joking anyway.

I'm not upset. It's just than jokes are supposed to make laugh, something, and this is not working at all.

Please don't stop! I mean, I can hardly ever solve the problems, but I kind of like maths so it's fun trying to solve them. I won't ever reply though, that would be far too embarrassing.

Don't stop, but don't lock them either. Just because there's an answer given doesn't mean there isn't discussion worth having. Much of mathematical research and learning begins by discussing an already solved problem and seeing what other questions arise.
