Suppose that Truman is killed by a letter bomb from the Stern Gang and George Marshall succeeds him.

After coming round to the idea that he could do good in the position and the necessity
of dealing with the communist threat he runs as the Democratic nominee in 1948.

Who would the VP be? By what margin would he win?

Did a little bit more looking.

When it comes to the VP sticking with Barkley might be ok.
Though considering that Marshall may only stay for one term (depending on circumstances eg . The Korean war) maybe he chooses someone more younger, perhaps J. William Fulbright.
