I'm going to have to oppose this. Do we really want minors getting skin cancer?

Thank you, Mr. Speaker

First of all, we can keep that part about minors requiring waivers. That's not what I wanted to get rid of. My main issue with the Northeast Healthy Skin Act of 2012 is that it places a tax upon the use of tanning beds. Not only is this blatant discrimination against tanning establishments, but it is an insult to those citizens of the Northeast who wish to improve their tan. Who are we to try and tax them out of existence because they want to tan their skin? In addition, this tax risks causing the MTV show Jersey Shore, a valuable commercial asset, to depart our region and set up shop in a region that doesn't want to tax tanners out of existence.

It's the Northeast Healthy Skin Act of 2012, not 2013.

Why not ask the Governor to incorporate this in the budget?

Edit: I'm okay with removing the tax (Section 5), but not the standards set in this bill.

Can we just remove a tax from the budget if it's required by a standing statute?

You'd put a rider on the budget repealing aforementioned statute etc. I did this in the last budget due to an unforeseen conflict between a law we passed and a previously passed law.
