McConnell IS a Tea Party conservative these days. He supports federal "right-to-work" laws and garbage like that. That's why he's so far ahead in the primary.

The trouble for him in November is that there really aren't that many Tea Party conservatives among the general public. And they made up their minds long ago to vote for McConnell in November if he wins the primary.

If you walk up to a random voter in Kentucky or any other state and ask them if they're a Tea Party conservative, odds are highly likely that they'll answer with a resounding negative.

No he isn't, he's the definition of the traditional Republican Establishment, except that the Tea Party want to boot out everyone who's an establishmentarian, and they will be very bitter when McConnell wins the Primary.
