The recent activities of the Senate have shown a tendency towards a new and malevolent purpose, in contravention of the enumerated rights of the regions. I believe that it is time to take a stand against the belligerence of the Atlasian Senate, lest they should be emboldened to step further.

Pursuant to the Abolishment of Pointless Offices Bill as amended by the Amendment to the Abolishment of Pointless Offices Bill, I hereby nominate Jbrase for Defender of the Realm.

Be it resolved, X Emperor PiT

As there are no procedural rules for how I should carry this hearing out, Representatives will have 24 hours to question the nominee before we proceed to a vote.

I like Jbrase personally, I really do.  But a major qualm I have about voting for his confirmation is that he seldom votes or debates in the Legislature.  I certainly wouldn't want to see this behavior continue in in the capacity of such an important position.  So, before I vote, I would at least like to hear Jbrase speak for why he feels he deserves this position and why we should put those absences aside in our consideration.

My apologies on not being very active in the legislature. A combination of being sick and busy with classes the past couple weeks. I'll try and get better with activity.

As for the matter at hand, I do not think I or anyone else 'deserve' any position, though I would like to think I have experience defending the region before the feds and can be trusted with this. However if you feel others would be better suited to do this job I will understand and support your decision.

While I am not a member of the Legislature, it occurs to me that the other members may not be clear as to why I am making this appointment, other than through the vague allusions I made in my nomination post. I do not want to go into too much detail since I'm not the one arguing the case and I may give away key points before it is their time.

With that said, would the nominee like to expound on the underlying issue?

As is well known in the constitution of Atlasia, the regions cannot be compelled to do or not do anything by the federal government with the exceptions of defending the rights of the Senate and of the people.

The specific law we will be challenging is the State Name Recognition Act of 2013, which prohibits the abolition of state names. We do not really feel the need to rename all of our states, so on the surface level this seems no big deal. However the underlying principle behind it is in clear violation of our rights and continues with a bad precedence that the Senate can have us do whatever, regardless of our rights.
