Her losing to Gatsby for production design is the worst thing the Oscars has ever done. Angry

Back off...

But honestly, Her was great, but you never, ever bet against Catherine Martin at the Oscars.

Glad Her won screenplay.  It should've beaten Gravity for score, too, but at least that was close. A lot of people were picking American Hustle to win original screenplay even though it didn't have a plot.

Indeed.

If anything, he should have won for Children of Men not Gravity.

Looks like we're not gonna get any upsets in the major categories tonight. Another snoozefest as far as that goes.

If he had won this time that's exactly what would've happened. Tongue

Really should have gone to Ejiofor, although I'm glad Nyong'o got her due at least.

The right film won.

Also kind of weird that this is Brad Pitt's first oscar. Maybe DeCaprio needs to start producing more films.

Not many surprises tonight. I picked 20/24 correctly. The others in my pool accused me of cheating. Tongue

I remember reading somewhere (it could be false), that Matthew McConaughey was supposed to play Jack Dawson in Titanic, but James Cameron insisted DiCaprio get the role instead. I thought of that tonight.

Yeah, I got 20/24 as well. Sadly my job didn't have a pool this year since the guy who ran it moved away. It's so easy to figure out who'll win if you know where and what to look at.

When was the last time the Oscars got best picture right? Some time in the 1970s? Miracles do indeed exist upon this Earth or something. Also what Nathan said.

As far as the other categories go, The Act of Killing was pretty clearly robbed, but at least The Great Beauty won.

Putting the winners aside, the show itself was a mess. Absolutely dreadful.

I am glad that Gravity had a good night, as I thought it would. Sandra Bullock is an actress who has come miles in her development. I remember her long ago in Demolition Man and some other flicks usually opposite some tough guy. Back then thinking that she one day could be an actress who you would think of to take on heavy material in a lead role was a big stretch, I think.

It was quickly evident that Wolf would win nothing. Too bad.

The Academy has always loved historical epics; right now it's Civil War and slave-themed films. If an adaption of Frederick Douglass has not recently been made, I'd say expect one!
