Far better than Hanabusa; I really can't understand why anyone who isn't a Republican would prefer her to him.

No strong opinion either way, but voted FF because corpses should not be allowed to decide elections.

Hanabusa is more electable and deserves the seat by the edict of Inouye, so HP.

Never change, Hanabots. I mean I can partially understand the whole "righting Abercrombie's wrong", but not even Lingle can beat Schatz.

How can you be more electable than someone guaranteed to win the general election?

The same thing was said about Al Gore and Kerry. Look where that lead this country.

Maybe if the United States had a 20 point democratic advantage you'd have a point

They did say that Al Gore and Kerry would win the election in Hawaii. And they did. Rather decisively.

Of course Schatz could win... and again... and again he would win.

It's really about the person in Dem primary.

What?

What I'm saying is that whoever is elected in Hawaii (who is a Democrat) will probably win re-election.

No strong opinion either way, but voted FF because corpses should not be allowed to decide elections.
Because Governors should be allowed to decide elections?

Honestly, Schatz is going to be much better Senator for Hawaii for one simple reason: seniority. Hawaii lost two longtime incumbents practically overnight. Schatz is younger than Hanabusa, therefore has longer prospective service ahead of him, plus time already served as an appointee.

Hanabusa is acting like a spoiled brat denied a candy. Sorry, but the Senate seat is not a family silver passed by inheritance.

If she's elected, she'd have electoral legitimacy and I won't complain. But running on the dead man's will is disgraceful.

No strong opinion either way, but voted FF because corpses should not be allowed to decide elections.

Look, I'm not a fan of the executive appointments. I much prefer having a snap special election instead, like in Oregon or Wisconsin.

But Hawaii's law stipulated the Governor is required to name a temporary replacement. And it's better than passing the seat on the desired successor by sole will of the departing incumbent.

If you guys believe Hanabusa is going to be better Senator, I respect that, but stop pulling the dead guy. That is not an argument.

Just to be clear, I was of course disappointed by Abercrombie but I'm not supporting Hanabusa because of Inouye. I support her because I really believe she would make a great senator. I generally side with her. I'm hawkish, her too. I'm on the left economically and "moderate" socially, like her.
So no, I'm using this argument. However, I'm extremely bored by oakvale and Snowstalker's statements. Hanabusa, you may like her or hate her, isn't running as the woman who should have been appointed. She has been endorsed by Inouye's widow, yes, but is she using the argument "Ii should have been appointed" every day? No!
And I definitely don't understand the love for Schatz, he has just sucked the governor's big d*** after all. Why should he have the seat without any fight in the primaries? Come on, it's Hawaii, it's the dem primary which is the most important.

So thanks, I'm not supporting Hanabusa because she should have been appointed. I hope you understand my point of view Kalwejt!

Hawaii is one of the most (the most?) Democratic states in the union. It stands to reason that you should thus try to get the most liberal Senator possible. Why waste Hawaii on some moderate hero like Hanabusa? It's not complicated. This is even aside from the seniority arguments.
