Does she deny climate change or man-made climate change?

I'd like to see Bill Nye debate Richard Lindzen or Anthony Watts.  But this little public spectacle will no doubt give Nye the ego boost he's looking for.  Blackburn is an idiot.

Didn't Vice-President Gore destroy her in an exchange where she called him to testify before Congress a few years ago?

Anyway, good luck to Bill Bye, hopefully he wins again.

It will be like kicking a puppy for him.  There is no glory in destroying her.

I'd like to see Bill Nye debate Richard Lindzen or Anthony Watts.

Now that would actually be a lot more interesting, and something I would be more inclined to watch.

Regardless of your views on climate change, Snowguy is right. Nye should debate an actual scientist, not some random congresswoman. I mean, he didn't debate Paul Broun on evolution.

In no way, shape or form is Ken Ham a scientist.

No, but there is a precedent of religious figures debating scientists when it comes to the origins of the earth and life on earth.

More to the point:  There's a reason Bill Nye is debating Marsha Blackburn and not a real scientist.  Because he wants an "overwhelming" win.

The real reason people like Bill Nye or Michael Mann don't want to debate someone like Richard Lindzen or Anthony Watts, though they will tell you it's because the latter two don't have a leg to stand on, is because both of those latter two are quite confident in their findings and have plenty of scientific work to cite for their claims.

What would be the fun if Bill Nye got schooled by someone who understands the issue much more intimately than he does?  They'd be running circles around Nye and it would be embarrassing.

Maybe they should have a debate on whether or not gravity exists next. Or what color the sky is maybe?

Long live Bill Nye! Glad he's getting more into these things because he's quite effective. If it's a slam dunk debate for him, as many think, then good. It will be a good teachable moment for a largely scientifically uninformed American public. For a lot of bad reasons, like what the weather is like out in the backyard, a lot of people remain unconvinced.

FTR: I was responding to Deus's comment.

And the reason why Nye is debating Blackburn on this rather than any of those people you mentioned is fairly obvious: she is a fairly high profile Congressperson while they are not.

Ironically, the day after the Ham debate, my computer science teacher basically said the same thing, that Nye should have debated with an ID advocate, rather than a YEC.

Even the Deniers don't take Richard Lindzen seriously anymore after it's been revealed that he gets a monthly stipend from oil companies, so there really wouldn't be any point in Nye debating him...

As I implied over here, the idea that Blackburn is as much an authority on this as Nye is insulting.

Oh, so it's probably just going to be some quick 5-minute thing on Meet the Press, not an actual debate.

FYI, here's the video.

I haven't watched the entire thing yet, but she's opens with a good point about Nye. By trade/degree, he's not a scientist. He's an engineer and TV personality. He's mostly self taught on all this stuff. Not to discredit him or the idea of teaching oneself, but he shouldn't be paraded around as some big name in science (a field where academic degrees mean everything).

Well the point is not that he's a scientist, but that he's guy who can debate and explain the issue. The average scientist would lose an debate against an politicians or an professional debater, because he would not think he would need to take the debate serious, because he would have "truth on his side" and would talk down to people.
Which is why it's a stroke of pure genius to use a television host from a children programs, because he used to explain complex things without talking down to his audience.

A general observation: Most scientists don't have time for formal debates on what everyone knows and understands within the scientific community, so it usually falls to someone closer to the media. Notable exceptions include what Nova does and also folks like Carl Sagan, who actually ended up doing more media stuff than real scientific work, and Neil Tyson, who has the time for this sort of thing. It's like bringing in someone to argue that the square root of four is two. A mathematician has better things to do. Nye always proves himself up to the task because he does the work.

And very often the people going against science are not scientists.
