Interesting New York Times story here. Puerto Rico has been going through a much worse recession than the rest of the country, and it seems to have led to an increase in migration to the mainland. The population losses in Puerto Rico have been occasionally noted in the Political Geography & Demographics board.

Its not exactly a new phenomenon for puerto rico. Of course it is picking up again.
