One of the few good things about Twitter is how it allows idiots to expose their idiocy, the idiocy goes viral, the idiots are identified and then harassed until they close their Twitter account. I saw it with a site compiling racist comments about the Indian Miss America. I checked the accounts and most were closed.

The ad also featured a family with two dads
http://www.nbcnews.com/business/coke-features-first-gay-family-appear-super-bowl-ad-2D12044708

So racism trumps homophobia?

What aspect of it, specifically, gets under your skin, Naso, and what problems will there be someday?

Because I feel it pushes an agenda and I just feel that our country is being divided among too many lines.

Here in Spain ultra-conservatives also dislike Coca-Cola, because its CEO here is republican (against monarchy, not GOPer) and also gay (not sure about this, can't remember).

Meh, a bit hypocritical considering that Coca-Cola is selling their products to the whole world and is therefore contributing to the Americanization of the planet. America is becoming more international and the world is becoming more American. Get used to it.

The complaints are reminding me of some of the knee-jerk debates on the IMDb message boards I've sometimes witnessed. People being annoyed by the fact that American movies are being made more accessible for foreign audiences (for instance the G.I. Joe Team of the movies has become an international organization) because American movies are making more and more money abroad.

No. I mean look at the countries with existing Latino pluralities. Mexico, Columbia, etc. Are they happy countries? A clue: no. Seriously, what is this desire for ethnic change... Can't we just go back to the good old days when the population was 85 percent white and the country gave Ronald Reagan 59 percent of the vote. Such days... looks dramatically off into the middle distance

He means he's a white supremacist. I'm not sure why anyone ever takes him seriously.

I can't imagine getting outraged by that ad. It was the most harmless thing I've ever seen.

LOL these people are seriously bitter and pathetic. I don't know how they live from day to day.

Nah, not really. I mean, it'd be wonderful and all, but it ain't gonna happen. I mean, wouldn't you love it if the demographics bounced forward in such a way as to ensure that the Democrats could get 59 percent of the vote.

It has always seemed pretty clear to me that Reaganfan is literally a white supremacist, albeit never quite as unabashed as Cassius is being here. Not sure how people miss that one.

I'm not a white supremacist though. I mean, the idea that white people are somehow intrinsically better/more intelligent/whatever than other races is a silly fantasy that doesn't stand up at all. On the other hand, whites and other racial groups have very different interests, as is evidenced by the fact that whites vote at about 60 percent for the GOP, and blacks vote at about 90 percent for the Democrats, with Hispanics voting about 70 percent for them. Somebodies got to win, to be right, and being a conservative white of anglo-saxon heritage I'd much rather that it was my side that prevailed. Is that, really, any different to the people who go #lolwhitepeople, or about how the country could be far better if there was a Latino plurality or somesuch. We all have views about how society should be run, and if those views happen to more generally coincide with those of a particular racial group, then so be it. Of course, such a viewpoint can be construed as racism, but I don't really see it that way. I have no animus against other racial groups based upon such trifles as skin colour and parentage. It's more of a calculation of self-interest than anything else.

There was a thread he made several years ago raving about how terrible interracial marriages are that even fellow Republicans called him out on it. Of course it got deleted and was generally forgotten.

The hilarious thing about this controversy is that the ad's message is actually super right-wing and authoritarian, but I guess conservatives just can't look beyond the scary brown people stealing their song.

You learned that I am not a white supremacist and that I hanker after the 1980's in a misty eyed kind of way Wink

But, more seriously (and the comment about Hispanic countries was tongue in cheek by the way) what is the difference between Afleitch saying how much better the United States would be if it had a Latino plurality and me expressing my preference for a United States with the same demographics as those which elected Ronald Reagan. Simply a difference of preference.
