Where do you see Russ Feingold's political career going from here? Will he remain quietly involved like he is now, will he quit altogether, or will he reemerge and run for public office?

Sadly, I don't see him ever being too active again.

The thing that I can applaud him for is voting against the Iraq war and the Patriot Act (the only one, too!). Besides that, yeah, I'm glad Johnson defeated him.

Plus the Clinton impeachment.

I wish he'd run again, especially to kick that mudeater Johnson's butt.  Could happen since Wisconsin has such schizophrenic politics.

Hopefully he takes out Johnson in 2016. He was one of the most principled Senators.

Ron Johnson is a horrid, empty-headed Randian, but just about any competent Wisconsin Democrat should be able to defeat him in 2016.

Why would you not want Feingold back?  I mean, I disagree with him on almost every issue, but he's one of the most principled guys out there.  Wisconsinites, whether Republicans or Democrats should have been proud to have such a great person representing them.

Hopefully, he'll make a comeback against Johnson in 2016.  Whatever your political ideology, you can't deny he was one of the most principled men in the US Senate.

Basically this, though I'm really annoyed at his dumb decision to not take outside money when he knew he'd need it.

Unfortunately, I think he might be done. If he wanted a political office again, I think he would have gone after Kohl's open seat or Walker this year. I might be wrong though and it could just be that he wants retribution on Johnson himself.

Beyond his awful gun views though in the Senate, I wouldn't mind to see him knock out Johnson. He has a solid record to run on as a bipartisan, but progressive lawmaker that supported the ACA which could help him out in that campaign against Johnson if the law becomes as popular as expected. The problem he could face though is that a lot of the young voters won't remember his campaign finance reform or his vote against the Iraq War - 2 of his best accomplishments. He could certainly appeal to Independents and his base, though. I would advise against him going for the Presidency just so he could give that opportunity to someone who has a better chance of winning like Hillary or Klobuchar.

If you're content with just another complacent Democratic Senator, then sure. My reason for posting this is because the Dems are lacking leadership (not official leadership, I mean real leadership) and if anyone can do it, it would be Feingold.

He was doomed regardless. Wisconsin, like most of the country, went full teabag in 2010.

“A statesman is a politician who’s been dead ten or fifteen years.” — Harry S. Truman,  April 11, 1958, speaking to the Reciprocity Club in Washington, D.C.

“A statesman is a successful politician who is dead.” — Thomas Brackett Reed, 1892

“Why don’t you die?” — Telegram sent Reed after his quote made the news.

I miss him greatly in the Senate. The man was my political hero, one of the most principled lawmakers in modern American politics, but it seems that he has had enough of public life.

But if he decides to make a comeback to destroy Ron Johnson, I don't think I would disapprove. Tongue

Though his views on civil liberties scare me, I miss him. He's a good advocate against Citizens United.
